Three steps to get started

1
Enter your server address

The address you use to open your archive in a browser – for example paperless.home.lan. The app confirms it with you once.

2
Sign in

With the same username and password you use in the Paperless web interface. Your access token is created automatically and stays on your device.

3
Check your inbox

New documents and anything assigned to you wait in one place. Check the details, add tags, file it – done.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try DocuWunder without a server of my own?

Yes. The app comes with a demo: tap “Try the demo” when you first open it and you’ll land in a sample archive full of made-up documents – no server address, no sign-in needed. The demo is reset regularly and everyone using it at the same time can see what’s in it, so please don’t upload real documents. For your own documents, you’ll need your own Paperless-ngx.

My sign-in is rejected – what now?

Check your username and password – they’re the same as in the Paperless web interface. A brand-new account also needs permissions through a group, otherwise the archive looks empty or sign-in fails; whoever administers your archive can set that up.

The app can’t find my archive

Open the server address in your device’s browser first. If it doesn’t load there, it’s a network issue – are you on the same Wi-Fi as your server, or do you need a VPN? If it loads in the browser but not in the app, email us with the exact address.

Where are my documents stored?

On your server, in your Paperless-ngx archive – nowhere else. DocuWunder is just the window onto it. Your device only keeps your sign-in and a thumbnail cache you can clear at any time.

Does the app work offline?

The app starts without a connection and never loads anything from third-party servers. To view, search and file documents, though, it needs to reach your archive – that’s where your documents live, not on the device.

Camera access was denied – how do I allow it?

Open your device’s Settings, find DocuWunder and turn on Camera. You can manage without it, too: add documents from Files or as a photo.

Can I switch to a different server?

Yes – you can change the server address in Settings at any time and then sign in to the new archive. The app is connected to one archive at a time.

When is the Android app coming?

After the iPhone version, which is about to launch on the App Store. We’ll only name a date once we can keep it – email us if you’d like to hear when it’s ready.

Does DocuWunder replace the Paperless-ngx web interface?

For everyday use, yes: capture, find, organize, manage. You can keep using the web interface alongside it – both work on the same archive, nothing is stored twice.

Understanding error messages

Every message in the app tells you what happened and what to do next. The three most common:

“Sign-in was rejected.”Check your username and password – and whether your account has permissions through a group.
“Your archive didn’t respond.”Test the server address in a browser, check your network or VPN, then try again.
“You’re offline.”The app starts without a connection – but to work with your archive it needs to reach your server.
